6 Reasons NOT to Learn Calligraphy
Here are 6 reasons not to learn calligraphy… things you probably haven’t been told about doing brush lettering.
Read this post before you dive into calligraphy to find out what’s really involved….
1. You may develop a brush pen obsession
At some point while learning calligraphy, you’ll realize just how much fun brush pens are to use.
The thing is, there are SO many brush markers out there. So you start seeing all these different brush markers that you just have to try.
You’ll discover your favorites that you come back to again and again, but you also get a pull to try that one new pen… and then another.
There’s a certain thrill you get when you pop open a brand-new set of brush pens and give them that first test on a sheet of paper.
And you may find yourself collecting more brush pens than you ever thought you needed.

2. You’ll start thinking about and noticing calligraphy everywhere
Learning calligraphy changes the way you see things around you.
Suddenly you’ll notice calligraphy styles and fonts in lots of places… on business logos, signs, mail, packaging.
You’ll start thinking about what goes into a perfect flourish or calligraphy letter because now you know how it’s done!
Then you want to try this new idea or style or technique you saw somewhere.
Who knows, maybe you’ll even dream about calligraphy in your sleep.

3. People will start asking you to do calligraphy for them
It’s almost certain that once the people around you see the beautiful writing that you do, they’ll start asking (or pestering) you to write things for them.
Whether it’s for a gift or a party or a wedding or just to decorate their home, there are lots of reasons people want custom calligraphy done.
And if you’re the only person they know who does calligraphy, who will they ask first?

4. You’ll have an excuse to buy more art supplies
That’s right… with a new skill like calligraphy to explore, you have an excuse to buy more art supplies.
And trust me, there are a LOT of art supplies related to calligraphy that can be bought.
New pens, more paper, paintbrushes, a case to hold your supplies, a new kind of ink, maybe a canvas or sign to write on, or even a book about calligraphy…
It’s hard to stop yourself when you go to the art store.

6. You’ll lose so much if it doesn’t work out
What if you try calligraphy for a while and it doesn’t work out?
